The Swedish Lapland Region is a 100,000km² large area, spanning across
Sweden, Norway, Finland and a part of Russia.
There are three rivers that flow between the regions, being the Tana River, Muonio- and the Torne River. The area of Lapland was originally split between two countries of the Swedish Realm from 1634 to 1809.
The northern and western areas of Lapland were transferred in 1809 under an agreement with Finland.
Lapland was also to become a Grand Principality and part of the inheritance of the proposed King of Finland. Then later separated in 1938, giving the Lapland divisions that it is today.

The Swedish part of Lapland has a population is around 250,000 when last recorded and this is made up of the Norrbottens County’s that span the Lapland region.
